Last night we discussed switching the socials to a house every other month. Skirblah was brilliant when he suggested still going to a public venue every other month that way if there was anyone leery about coming their first time, they might be more relaxed going out in public. That Skir is so smart.
Someone volunteers their house.....we each bring a food item to share, we bring our own drinks (not just a bottle of something....bring what you need to make your drinks, we don't want to put any burden or expectations on our host). Pretty simple and there is the added bonus of not leaving with a $40 bill afterwards. We're burners, we don't have money!
We already got an offer for someone to open up their home (I'll wait for you to chime in though in case you changed your mind T), and we are also willing, although we would only be available to do that when we don't have our kids. Anyone else out there with a good space that would like to throw themselves into the volunteer pool? Anyone have any thoughts or opinions that we might not have considered and really should?

Re: SVB Venue Thoughts
Sun, June 8, 2008 - 10:16 AM<grin> well I am sure ya can find a way to use that $40.00 I love you guys, really, I just could not get charly to agree to use the gas to go.... he's a bit concerned about making the ends meet, we are supposed to leave in 17 days for our vacation, but, still no stimulus package the government promised us so, vacation may be postponed if not cancelled cuz there just is not enough money to do it...
charly communtes to works everyday, not too far, certainly not as far as some others we know but he has to have it to make it and still have enough to do the other things we have to do, the wanna do stuff usually gets back burnered,
we missed ya all.... and if ya ever wanna drive down here to manteca we would love to host the gathering
thank you Crash for being so generous and wonderful.....

Re: SVB Venue Thoughts
Sun, June 8, 2008 - 10:27 AMHonestly, this wasn't brought up because of any one person. It was because of (according to J) the crappie service we got and the multiple bills that didn't make any sense what-so-ever. The calculations that we all have to figure in at the end of the night, who had what, who didn't put in, did we tip....all that junk. Factor in being booted out at 11 which is no fun. And quite frankly it can end up to be a very expensive evening, which might be keeping some people from coming out. When we hosted the meeting at our house we had a bigger turn out then we ususally have at Pyramid.
And we love you guys too! <smooch> -

Re: SVB Venue Thoughts
Sun, June 8, 2008 - 11:02 PMyeah, service last night was pretty lame.... and it's not like it was someone new, the server was one that we've dealt with many times. ... whatever! ... and their 10:30 last call (which is NOT announced) is quite lame.
and while the beer and food were good, i'm sure we could cook up something very similar on most any of our grills, and i know i can find some really awesome brew at the store, and share it with more people... for much cheaper too
the only reservation i have about going to private venues - which i really do like this idea .... but the reservation i have is that it creates a 'rolling' location - which could make it harder for new people to figure out. that stated, in all the months i've been doing this, there has been a core group, and while there have been new comers, the core has not changed much. i'd hope that new comers can figure the location by reading the current thread....
pyramid was the only public location that consistently had a good turnout - in a way it's shame that we're saying bye to it.... but enough is enough -

Re: SVB Venue Thoughts
Mon, June 9, 2008 - 12:18 AMsad, really, to hear it's changed so much that it's become unbearable.... but I hear ya, the way it is with fuel costs now, it's bad enough, but add expensive poor service on top of that it really doesnt make for a good time...
so.... HOPEFULLY, we can make it up tat way again, I was so disappointed last night to have to cancel.. charly said it just couldnt happen, we have to make it till thursday before we can get anymore gas, and he has 4 dayss till then he has to do that 45 miles commute....
he's already trippin he may not have enough,
today we took the bikes out of storage, cleaned them up and rode for the first time since last year on the playa.. he's talking about commuting on the bike to work.. GEESH!! thats a long ride.. I can't imagine..
anyway, I would be willing to follow the trail to the gatherings, of course time and fuel costs permitting..
I totally understand that ya all can't get down this way either.... sucks to live so far away from our friends..
but know that even if we don't see you as often as we wish, we think of you often, and miss ya..
looking forward to connectng with ya all in July and August before going to the playa... and if it doesnt happen, well certainly on the playa...
HUGS!! keep us in the loop, please
