so tonight i went and watched this documentary. one of the city counsel members was at the screening and informed us that nestle is going to put a bottled water plant here in Sacramento. basically they will be taking our water and selling it back to us, in plastic bottles that not only pollute the environment but can poison the water.
watch the link, and help take action to stop this plant from taking sacramentos water.

http://...www.screamtobegreen.com/2009/04/tapped-documentary-on-bottled-water/

Do you drink bottled water? Do you know people who drink bottled water? Watch this trailer to the new doc called “TAPPED.” I hate that there is a generation of children being raised right now that only knows bottled water. WTF people – it’s called an immune system. You’ll be okay if you drink tap water. Really – you’ll live. Your kids won’t be mutants. Well – maybe they will from ingesting so much plastic from the bottled water.

Yeah – I know – there are cons to municipal treated water as well, but I think the pros definitely out weigh the cons. Let’s look at bottled water. Most of it comes in plastic bottles. Plastic is made from oil. Plastic leaches into the water. A lot of bottled water is just repackaged tap water (i.e. Dasani and Aquafina). Water is heavy to ship, thus using more oil. If you’re a fancy pants, you’re not drinking this “tap water.” You opt instead for Fiji water because it comes in a fancy square bottle and is shipped from Fiji (where a large percentage of islanders don’t have access to safe drinking water). Perhaps you are even more fancy pants than that and you drink San Pelligrino. Oooh…but glass recycles better than plastic and doesn’t leach. Correct – but it’s heavy – damn heavy! Oh…and it’s a Nestle brand…like they need another water brand. Nestle is like the Phillip Morris of water. San Pelligrino, Perrier, Vittel, Ice Mountain, Deer Park, Poland Spring, Deer Park, Zephyrhills, and of course, plain old Nestle.

When I was growing up, no one drank bottled water. Some might have taken old milk jugs to the grocery store to fill up for $0.25 from their filtered water. Perrier and Evian were the only bottled waters you could buy. Then sometime in the late 80’s it started catching on more and more. At some point there was a mindset projected on the population that you were a bad person if you didn’t drink bottled water. I just don’t understand it.

Water is a precious commodity – protect it – drink it – from the tap. I know it’s hard to believe here in the good old U.S. of A. that there will be wars fought for water, but there will be. It’s the next oil, you know (which we need to package the water for you).

I am thinking of building an art car for Burningman next year. I was wondering if there were any "burner friendly" places around for sheet metal fabrication and work space. I am in the investigation stage right now, looking into what I would need, if I have the resources available, etc. Any info on places around the Sacramento area that could help with this I would appreciate it!

Thanks,
I am in need of a ride for a sculpture piece to the Burn. I have no photos of the sculpture right now but can give a brief description..

It is approx 6 ft tall X 3 feet wide with a depth of maybe 2 1/2 feet. It is a large wooden shadowbox with a sculpture inside of a treewoman/goddess decorated with bones and shells and wood.

Unfortunately my friends RV is broken down and wont be able to transport it as originally planned so im trying to find a last minute ride for it. The piece is in Sacramento and i need to get it out there preferably monday or tuesday at the latest

It is very important to me to get it out there so it can be featured in a community altar @ Entheon Village.

I would be happy to contribute gas $$$ and/ or trade/ barder to anyone willing to help me get it out there.

Thank you to anyone who can help and happy Burn!

BLACK ROCK CITY 2009 MAP
For your planning pleasure, here is the Black Rock City Map for 2009.

http://www.burningman.com/media/doc/preparation/maps/09_maps/2009_BRC...

Shaded areas reserved until 11:59 pm, Sunday August 30th for
registered, placed theme camps, and also includes some space held back
for the general public. After that, all unoccupied camping areas of
BRC become available to all.

This year's street names will be:

Esplanade
Adapt
Biology
Chaos
DNA
Extinct
Fossil
Kinship
Lineage

Center Camp ring road: Evolution

2009 BLACK ROCK CITY PLAN

We received a great deal of feedback critical of the expanded size of
the 2008 city, so it’s "deja vu all over again” as we return to nearly
the same, smaller footprint of 2007, in the same BLM-mandated location
of the Black Rock Desert. The distance from the inner-most road to the
Man is down from 2700 to just 2100 feet, so a hop, skip, and a jump
should get you from theme camp Esplanade frontage to the Man.

CENTER CAMP CHANGES

This year Center Camp will be smaller than 2008, but we’re not
throwing the baby out with the gray water: we are compromising
precisely between 2007 and 2008 for the size of Center Camp.

This morning after my swim I stopped for a coffee.....which I stopped drinking months ago. It must have been fate.

As I'm drinking it, I notice the local newspaper container and on the front page the title "Artists look at packing up & moving from West Sac." Instantly I knew it was referring to Horse Cow. Well, because it is West Sacramento and we just aren't known for our art. I scrambled to find the change to buy the full story and dug right into the article. My daughter listened to my rant and raves as I blurted them out at each paragraph.

I am so disappointed in the City of West Sacramento for trying to shut down an artist's facility on the basis of codes. It's an old warehouse. This is an old community with many older homes that are most likely violating the same codes that Horse Cow is being black listed for. If the city was that concerned with unsafe structures and wiring, wouldn't it behoove them to check all of the warehouses in the area? Is it really the codes or the fact that having a facility that brings in other people that might not be considered "the norm" is a greater concern to the community? Horse Cow has been residing at their current location since 2007. Two years later, when West Sacramento is trying to further implement eminent domain to clean up the reputation of the city, a haven for artists just doesn't fit in with their vision.

Not to worry though, I'm sure they will go after the local theater company next. After all, we wouldn't want to teach our youth to have the ability for free self-expression. They might further grow as an artist. And they might, just might learn to think for themselves.

Hi,

Participate this year by being part of the theme camp that folks wait in line for over in hour for our gift. Yes, a cool headwash out on the playa is that good! We are Astral Headwash, been on the playa for 12 years and this year we have some spots open. If you want to haul out your own shade, shower, chairs, tables, sinks, and hate playing in water in the heat of the day, we are not the camp for you. However, if you would like to make your trip out a little less of you hauling stuff, and want to be part of a camp where everyone has an equal time to gift and get out and have fun, we might be. We only ask that you be part of setup or take down (and we start take-down Saturday so burn nights are yours) and a few days during the week from about noon to 5pm. Our focus is not to make camp work but rather to focus on the fun

We need folks to help us run this year. And, BRC needs participants to help make it the special place it is. There are dues (to cover water, shampoo goods, gas, storage) but they are less than half the cost of a ticket. And water includes camp drinking water.

And, if you have never been early to watch the city grow we still have a couple spots open for early entery to help set up.

If you think you might want to come participate with use, shot me a line.

Then I moved to North Carolina. Then my house burned down the day after Christmas and my daughter had her baby, so I thought to myself, "Self? I think it's time you went back home to California. The weather is freezing a$$ cold here in NC, you have a new baby grandson, your daughter needs you, and you'll really be traveling light, so why not go? Plus, you'll be only 5 hours away from BurningMan again!!" It feels good to be back. I'm living with my daughter in Citrus Heights and spoiling my grandbaby with oodles of kisses.
Soup's On!

Great news in a down year - the second UNofficial Reno Regional Burn and camp-out is now official!

Considering our Burned out economy, some may not even make it to the playa this year. Others have asked for a spring camp-out for Burners. So we're headed back to PermaBurn! And to keep it totally FREE, we're using the Stone Soup approach.

For those who didn't join us last year, PermaBurn is 640 acres of northern California being organized as permanent art installations by a Burner named Greg Glover from the east coast. In the spirit of Burning Man, Greg has gifted this volcanic caldera for the weekend with virtually no restrictions on how we wish to express ourselves.

Just like on the playa, and as in the story Stone Soup, WE get to add all the rest. Since the pre-announcement a few days ago, I've had feedback from over 40 people volunteering to put this thing together. The soup is already gaining some excellent flavor...

Club Verboten Comes to PermaBurn!

Yep. The very same tent you saw at the 4:30 plaza last year; the club known for stopping traffic and plugging up the streets of Black Rock City will be erected in the center camp area at PermaBurn Friday afternoon, June 5th.

Tim Hunter himself (aka Omar Suarez) will be spinning the music as well as providing a venue for other DJs. So far we have offers from DJ Reality of Camp Ellipsis, BabebyBay(Betsy) from the bay area and D6 from Reno. You guys need to check in with Tim (thunter885@aol.com) unless you plan to set up your own venues. Whatever your taste, we'll have some excellent music coming out of this volcano, and at least one fully enclosed club in which to enjoy it.

From Omar...

We look forward to setting up,for the first time ever outside BRC,at this years Stone Soup. Thanks to Comrade Sudden for the leadership in getting it together,Our club is known for retro techno based dance parties. Can't change formula here but hopefully we can incorporate all the dj talent we have coming. What we have in mind is a weekend program...."Evolution of Techno Beats".

Friday 1966-1984........ Garage/Psych to UK glam to Disco to CBGBS

Saturday-1984- 2009....... 80's syntho pop,90's dance, late 90's House classics, present day electronica and current techno pop. all times to be determined We hope all djs will find something they like and let me know as soon as they can. peace Omar

Hi all,

I have a very sentimental 1974 pop-up tent trailer that I have used a couple of times at Burningman. "Her" name is Frida (in honor of Frida Kahlo ) and she has some issues... the cable system on the one side is broken and the wiring on the brake lights does not work correctly, the canvas is no good either. It is called a "Swinger" because the stove and sink swing outward. The stove and water could be hooked up to work as well.

Other than that she is in OK good shape. She has new tires and bearings, the trailer is in great shape, she is painted on the inside pink orange and green, cushions, metal counters, some fun painting on a couple of sides and a blank white on the others. The canvas is shot and we just covered it in sheets for Burning Man and it worked out great.

If you are a handy person you could probably fix the cabling and the wiring.

I've recently bought a dome and am using that now for my campsite so its time to let Frida go. I know there is some work to do so I'm looking for best offer or some trade or if you have a great plan for her we can talk.

My biggest concern is that I want her to stay as a burning man project and stay in the "family." She resides in Sacramento and you would have to come pick it up.

If you have any interest email me at kristen@metalphoria.com and I can send you some photos.

Thanks

Before I go looking around I thought I might ask to see if anyone new of any inexpensive places around town that I should look into.
it is time to start thinking about the wonderful month of December and it's SVB social. That's right... time to make plans for getting together yet again.
(didnt we just do this? we gotta do it again?) HEY, I heard that!!
ANYWAY - ....
Yeah, sooo....
December 6th is the lucky day.
6:30 until ?? is the lucky time.
The Streets of London Pub in West Sacramento, 2200 Lake Washington Blvd, is the lucky place.
WE are the lucky people!!

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

There is a caveat to all this.... isn't there always?
This is the same date that the Sacramento Cacophony Society is hosting their Santa Con/Walk/Whatever this event is called..... I really dont like competing with other fun events, but there is no real way to avoid such in all cases.

We have two options - those that want to get together and socialize as SVBers, that is.... one, we do our social at the Streets of London as I wrote above... or, we join the Santas - caveat here is that everyone must be Santa'd, elf'd, Mrs Claus'd out in some way or another.... their rules, not mine.

I am looking for a full body suit for an artistic project after Burning Man. I need it to be flixible and to cover my WHOLE body, including head and face. It needs to be tan/pink and I have to be able to breathe and see through it.

Has anyone worn one of these before? WHat was it like being in there? I found a couple of places where it seems like they make the suit from a liquid material. Does anyone know where I can find a company that will make the color I need? How bout prices.....eek way expensive huh?

Its already decorated too, albeit decorated for Green Man all covered in ivy and green L-wire, but I'm sure it'll fit in just fine.
